Bont Rowing and new shoesBont Rowing has generously donated 4 pairs of Row Perfect boat shoes to the club. Thanks heaps, Istvan! Very appreciated.
Two boats (Miss Battersea and Steve Sherry) have been fitted out with the Bont Rowing Drive QRS (quick release system) and the newly purchased and donated shoes fitted with the QRS clips. We are trialing the clips, with the view to installing the Drive QRS into other boats so rowers can have shoes that fit them perfectly. |
The Learn to Row program not only introduces people to the wonderful world of rowing, it is also a source of fundraising for the club. Over the last four years, the Learn to Row has been done 'in-house', instead of hiring an outside coach. Everyone's services have been voluntary. But members are given coffee money for their help (parallel to the meals-on-wheels volunteers $5 coffee money).
Rowena, Doug and Andrew have coached, while club members have sat bow and stroke to guide the new rowers. Jodie (2020), Rowena (2016, 2017, 2018, 2019), Judith (2015, 2014) have liaised with and organised the LTR rowers. The organisation is huge. Mountains of emails and hours of planning. From our Learn to Row we have seen our club member numbers swell and our position on the NSW Rowing leader board move up the ranks. We have also raised money! Financial years: 2016 - 2017: $1,165 2017 - 2018: $1,440 2018 - 2019: $970 2019 - 2020: $1,482 Grand total: $5,057 |
Bottles galore!Last week a huge pile of bottles exploded from the shed. The tsunami only just squeezed into the big blue Subaru. One hour later, we're $40 closer to those nifty Bont boat shoes, lifting the tally of our cash for can-n-bottle to $69.00. We've already reached our first $135 target with the Xmas and New Year celebrations. And a little bird tells me there's more down at the shed.... I suppose that's another thing you can still enjoy doing during this COVID time!

After one year, the club has managed to raise $360 in bottle recycling to purchase four stainless steel boat slings from Swift Racing - one set is ideal for singles and the other for quads and doubles.
Our 2020 goal is new boat shoes. Rowfit have a shoes of single size ($120 per pair) or adjustable over 3 sizes ($132pp), while Sykes have single sized shoes for $185. The final purchase product is still to be decided. In the meantime, the thermometer is up on the pinboard with a $135 increment goal - already $89.60 has been recycled after the Xmas festivities. Thank you everyone for drinking! Brilliant! |
New slings - bottle drive fundraiser (June 2019)The new slings are now officially in use. They are extremely stable and singles fit snugly into the V. They are a little wider in the feet, so take care not to trip over them.
The collection continues. We are on our third fundraising thermometer. Keep your bottles coming in....but just the bottles. Please try not to leave your plastic bags ... unless you really have to (e.g. if we haven't been able to supply a box). |
